Dear CPA Branch,
With the UK hosting the 26th UN Conference of Parties on Climate Change (COP26) in November 2021, CPA UK, in partnership with the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), are delighted to invite nominations to the first virtual Commonwealth Parliamentary Forum on Climate Change from the 22nd – 24th March 2021.
We invite your legislature to apply for places for up to eight parliamentarians and two clerks to participate in the Forum.
The programme will aim to engage parliamentarians across the Commonwealth in discussion on holding governments to account, setting ambitious climate commitments, and complying with international agreements. Delegates will be offered the opportunity to gain knowledge, network with peers, and build their skillset. During the Forum a working group will be elected to take forward the action points discussed by delegates.
Please see the included invitation at the end of this news article, from CPA UK Chief Executive Mr Jon Davies for more information and the nomination criteria. To nominate delegates, we would be grateful if Branch Secretaries could complete a new online registration form for each nominated delegate.
To showcase good practice from across the Commonwealth we are hoping to film short videos documenting how parliamentarians have helped overcome challenges relating to climate change. Examples of this can be but are not limited to, successful projects undertaken by parliamentarians at the local level, directly with constituents or through policy. If your legislature has such an example and would like to share the story, we very much would like to hear more about it. Please complete the “Short Video Project” form included at the end of this news article. It is our intention that the videos produced will be played at the Forum as part of the programme and shared on CPA UK’s social media platforms.
We would be grateful if all forms can be completed by no later than 1700 GMT Friday 22 January 2021. If for any reason you may require further time to complete nominations, please inform us as soon as possible.
Best wishes,
CPA UK
